Pastor Anthony L. Hughes, Sr. Pastor and Rev. Dorisalene Hughes
Rev. Anthony L Hughes was born and raised in Chicago Illinois, where he was baptized at Lincoln Memorial U.C.C. Church at a young age. He holds degrees from DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago (B.S.), and Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri (M.Div.)
Rev. Hughes began his pastoral career in 1993. He served Mount Olive AME Church in Emporia, Kansas for five years, and Grant Chapel AME Church in Wichita, Kansas for three. In 2001, Rev. Hughes was assigned to St. Paul AME in San Bernardino, CA. There he served as President of the Inland Empire AME Minister’s Alliance, and also was selected, along with his wife, to create a Prayer Ministry for the Fifth District.
In June of 2006, Pastor Hughes was assigned to Bethel Memorial AME Church of San Diego, where to date over 100 souls have been added. By God’s Grace, his ministry has become international, as he has been invited to minister in Barbados, Kenya, Jamaica, and other foreign nations as well.
In San Diego, Pastor Hughes assumed the presidency of Richard’s Place, Inc, a transitional housing facility for men living with HIV/AIDS. The program has flourished under his leadership, having housed over 30 HIV positive men since 2010. He also serves as the Social Action Chair of the San Diego County Inter-denominational Ministerial Alliance.
Pastor Hughes is the life and ministry partner of Rev. Dorisalene Y. Hughes. They boast of two daughters, Melissa (T.J.) Templeton of Murrieta CA, and Alicia (Christian) Williams of Wichita, KS. They also have four granddaughters; Myleigh, Brookelyn, Madison, and Brazil – and one grandson, Christian Anthony Andrew Williams.
Rev. Hughes loves to quote Proverbs 3:5,6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
